How We Got Started
Our breeding program began in the Fall of 2005. While in search for the perfect Toy Aussies we met many breeders along the way. They all seem to have fallen in love with Toys because of their wonderful temperament, intelligence, agility, and perfect little size! Fortunate for us, in the midst of our search we met Brenda of Pleasant Wood's Toy Australian Shepherds. She has become a dear friend to us and has helped guide us along in this new journey.
About Our Dogs
We couldn't be happier with the dogs we have, as they all come from careful breeding and are raised with lots of love. The parent's of our pup's are all award winning dogs with outstanding type, temperament, and confirmation. Each of the dogs have been evaluated and found to be top show quality by Pat Hastings, renowned Breed Evaluator, using the Puppy Puzzle method when they are 8 weeks of age. We register all of our dogs with National Stock Dog Registry and American Stock Dog Registry, if they are Mini's we also register them with the Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of America.
The Size We Raise
The dogs we raise here are considered "Toy" size, though every now and again we end up with a top quality, small "Mini". Most of our dogs meet the height requirement set for Toys (by National & American Stock Dog), which is 10-13 inches tall (Mini's are 14-18 inches & Standards are 19-26 inches). If you are looking for a smaller version of the standard Aussie so many of us love, then look no further. We breed my dogs for more than just a tiny size. They're bred from the best lines and are all evaluated for type and temperament before they are allowed into our breeding program. You will not find a Toy that looks closer to the structure, color and temperament of a standard Aussie than what is in these lines. The dogs at Crooked River Toy Aussies are sweet as can be, well behaved, very well socialized, many attend doggy service training, are litter box/indoor/outdoor trained, registered, shown, and soon-to-be proven Champions. They are all truly one of a kind!
Warning - Future Toy/Mini Aussie Owners
As a final note, I must worn you. If you are considering owning a Toy Australian Shepherd, one thing you'll have to get used to when taking your dog out in public, is being flocked by a crowed of oogling people. Everywhere I go I hear "what kind of dog is that", "where do find them", "they are so cute and tiny", "I want one". It can be overwhelming for us owners, but these little dogs are true crowd pleasures and just love the attention.
